Google Business Profile vs. a website: do you need both?
A Google Business Profile is free and can bring in calls on its own, so it's fair to ask whether a local business needs a website too. For most, the answer is yes — because the two do different jobs.

What a Google Business Profile does well
- Puts you on Google Maps and in local map results.
- Shows your hours, location, phone number, and photos at a glance.
- Collects reviews where people are already looking.
- Lets people call or get directions in one tap.
It's free, and for local businesses it's often the first impression. Every local business should claim and complete one.
What a profile can't do
- Explain your services in depth, or answer detailed questions.
- Show your full brand, work, and story the way you want.
- Rank for the many searches that show regular results rather than a map.
- Take bookings, quotes, and inquiries in the way your business works.
- Belong to you: Google controls the format, and can change it at any time.
Why they work best together
The profile gets you noticed; the website convinces. Many people who find you on Maps tap through to your website before they call. A profile that links to a clear, fast site gives them what they need to choose you.
They also reinforce each other in search. Matching business details, and a website that clearly describes your services, help search engines trust your profile.
Keep them in sync
The most common problem isn't missing one or the other — it's the two disagreeing. Different hours on your profile and your site sends people to a closed door. Whenever something changes, update both.
